Malibu, just for fun

It all started with Architectural Digest. I was thumbing through the mag and saw some real estate listings in Malibu. So I went to the web waves and started looking at Malibu real estate just for kicks. A Frank Gehry designed oceanfront home for $57.5 million? No problem.

I looked at a few more listings just for fun. Then I decided to decorate my own (little) Malibu beach house using of course, Canvas Interiors goodies. I do this exercise from time to time to make sure we have a good mix of vibes in the product edit. We start with the base of a 'simple canvas' (the Dahlia and Baja for example) and build a specific look around that.

So here you have my morning exercise:

Add a big jute rugsome throw pillows and put your sandy feet up.

I hope you have enjoyed this little trip to Malibu. From time to time I share tidbits from the store and I hope you enjoy that too. If you are new to the blog (thank you for coming!) you can read more about about Canvas Interiors and why I talk about it every now and then here and here.

If you would like to see more you can visit the store here

oh and ps: we are having a floor sample sale (in store only) starting today through Sept. 2nd and there are still some lovely sale items on the website too

totally random Tuesday

Here are your totally random tidbits for Tuesday:

clockwise from top left:

1) soaking tubs and major mountain biking via remodelista... the hotel is called the Canvas Hotel... yup of course I had to include that today

2) fab giveaway on A PIECE OF TOAST - orange Givenchy bag deadline today!

3) new items added to SHOPBOP's sale

4) I popped into Canvas Interiors yesterday and saw one on my favorite tables, Hana moved to a new spot and she looked so refreshed and happy.

Enjoy!

a house in the hills

I stumbled across this blog over the weekend and had to share. Just the title of the blog invokes sunshine and a lifestyle of easy breezy cool. Sarah Yates' blog, a house in the hills, is full of beautiful photography, fabulous style and she uses words like 'stalking' when referring to the black dress you see below. Right up my ally in a 'slightly obsessed' kind of way.

This dairy free and raw salted honey and fig cheesecake looks divine.
Sarah Yates makes yummy stuff, takes pretty pictures and shares the recipe.

I ordered these joie pants last week from my 'totally random tuesday' collage. Seems Sarah likes them too.  I think I would like to be friends with Sarah.  Am I slightly obsessed?  No. Just really impressed.
Maybe someday I'll work in a selfie wearing the pants.
Maybe.

inspire // desire

This image is just so lovely. Charming strangers passing on the fashionable streets of Paris.  I feel like it sums up the two sides of my closet, with the jeans and flats taking center stage and the pumps and dressy dress up clothes sneaking into frame every now and then. Hmmm. Deep right?

DESIRE

console me

I am working on gathering console table ideas for our entry way.  Our 'salon' is coming together with a Saarinen marble top tulip dining table on order, and a blonde horse hair rug at the ready to put under it.  It will rest happily near a family heirloom, an antique Danish secretary.

Here are a few entryway images I have gathered for inspiration so thought I would share them here today.

The Saarinen and the Secretary are two rather dramatic statements.  I feel the entryway needs to marry a few styles and eras together in a quiet way.  A big job for a small space.
I think this last image is my favorite.
Delicate, pretty and understated.
I can't wait for it all to come together.

totally random Tuesday

Today's edit of randomness:

clockwise from left:

1) Kate Bosworth always gets it right with a great coat, cuffed skinnies, pointy toe flats and a fab bag
2) check out Sarah's House, its really cool
3) one of the most heartwarming blogs around "Advanced Style"
4) cute little dress, and "The Londoner" a perfectly cheeky blog
5) wanna buy a house?  check out this East Hampton listing just for fun.

Enjoy!

to the point

I am loving pointy toe flats. Dainty with a little edge all at the same time. While the ballet flat is soft and demure and has its place, put on a pointy toe flat and it gives just the right amount of edge.  It is a look I will be throwing on with jeans on a daily basis.  Add an ankle strap and I'm sold.

...and of course if you really want to splurge, Jenni Kayne is the way to go but I must say Chinese Laundry got it right with #3.

Happy Monday and happy shopping!

the apartment Copenhagen

Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities.  Each time we are there (Mr. K family roots) I walk for hours looking at the beauty that is this city.  I wish I could transport myself there immediately to check this store out.  The Apartment is housed in an 18th century apartment in the heart of Copenhagen and staged with antique rugs, a well curated art collection, vintage furniture and other treasures.

I have had this idea tucked in the back of my mind for Canvas Interiors. In my minds eye I see a lovely beach house/store somewhere fabulous (Malibu? Santa Barbara? Bahamas?) It is inspiring ( I use that word a lot don't I?) to see it done so beautifully and so well curated.

Dream big I say.

totally random Tuesday

I come across many things that inspire, excite or intrigue me. It usually happens over the weekend when I look at magazines, reflect on things in the store I may have photographed the week prior, or come across a great sale. So I'm trying a new approach to putting all of this randomness together in a new series called

Totally Random Tuesday

I approach creating the blog as an editor.  Bringing together bits and pieces so you don't have to hunt it all down. Hopefully this series will enhance my editorial approach and give you a quick snapshot of a wider variety of totally random things. I will get my collage making fix and hopefully you will get some fresh ideas, inspiration or resources.

Randomness: (clockwise from top left)

1. loving the new issue of est magazine as mentioned yesterday
2. this 'Etoile' mirrored star from canvas interiors  is an easy way to add a little sparkle to a room
3. really embracing the track pant trend this fall and these are just about perfect
4. glamping is the way to go
5. still can't get enough of Sundry so had to include a pretty picture because i liked it in the collage

Tania Handelsmann / est magazine

The latest issue of est magazine is on 'webstands' and I am loving this space designed by Tania Hadelsmann.  Grey and white mixed with faded wood, a few traditional touches (love the grey chairs) create a space that feels modern yet grounded and warm.

You can read a bit more about Tania here
check out more of her work on her website here

Love letter to Sundry clothing

Ok I don't even know what to say here except this brand makes me speechless.

My kids are screaming, bedtime is near, everyone is tired.  I sit down at my computer with my shoulders up around my ears and just hope for 5 minutes of peace. I go to the Sundry site to see what they have designed for fall.

My heart rate has slowed, my shoulders are back where they should be and I feel peaceful (also might have something to do with the glass of wine sitting next to my computer).

I simply love this brand.  To evoke such an emotional response from imagery and exceptional design is not often done.  Dear Sundry, I love you.

I write about what I love, I have no major editorial 'plan'.
Mine is truly is a blog of instant thought and emotion.
Sundry gets me every time.
