SIMPLE PLEASURES

have a beautiful weekend

I'll be back at it next week after being down with an 'influenza-like illness' (huh?) all this week.
My simple pleasure today is feeling better.

RECLINING

Hello and thanks for stopping by.
I am a little under the weather so no big thoughts today.
We just got Small K through walking pneumonia and
I think its my turn to go down.

I wish I could say I looked this pretty when sick, but alas, not the case...

Taking time off to rest... not something I'm good at but I'm going to try.
In the meantime happy Monday!

OH-LIVIA

I know its freezing, and I know most of you are thinking about staying warm in multi-layers. But today I'm sort of coveting an army jacket. They've been around forever, I have had them over the years and tired of them, but this spring I'm feeling a renewed interest. There are a few that have caught my eye lately so I think its time to swap out the cashmere sweaters (Florida winter coat) and mix in an army jacket. And who better to get us inspired but Olivia.

STYLE STAPLES...

CONVERSE MAKE ME HAPPY

Its no secret that I love my Converse. I have been wearing them for many years. They are part of my uniform.  There is a moment getting dressed where my biggest decision pretty much every day in the Florida winter is "grey, navy, or white Converse today?" They make me happy. Odd but true. They are pretty much an extension of my personality.

Here is some Converse love, styled up, down, any which way you choose.

SLIGHTLY OBSESSED: ANINE BING

I think I just found a new uniform.  I am as you know, a fan of the basics with a twist. White T, jeans, a great black boot and I'm good to go.  Anine Bing has found a way to hit the refresh button on these items and make them her own. A model, singer/songwriter and now fashion designer, Anine is also a mom which is a juggling act all of its own. Her clothes reflect an ease and a care-free sensibility with an edge.

Check out her site -  It is well branded, totally casual and cool. I think you might end up slightly obsessed with some of her pieces.  I am quite focused on a few...

CHRISTIAN LIAIGRE'S ST BARTS

If I were going to build a house in the Bahamas, or any beach setting... this would be the inspiration. Christian Liaigre's St. Barts getaway. He has been going there for 30 years and inspiration came from the simple beach cottages that existed on the island back then. He set out to build a 'simple fishing hut'.

Simple, spare and well edited.  Straightforward bones, beadboard and sisal. With a touch of elegant.
My kind of fishing hut.

LUCITE AND BRASS ADDED TO THE MIX

We added a new treasure to the 'salon' a few days before Christmas. I am so excited about it.  Found it on 1st dibs and had to share.  We needed just the right piece for the entryway and this is it. While we have a few choices at the ready with Canvas Interiors, we also feel strongly about the idea of 'collecting' and layering new with old. Our living room consists of a whole lot of Canvas and a few key collected pieces.

Here she is... we haven't named her yet...

She gets along well with these guys.

Here are a few more brass goodies just incase you are feeling it too.
I am really into the warmth and patina that it adds to a room.

This last one is from Canvas Interiors, it is one of my favorite pieces on the floor.
Had to include it of course!

DOWN UNDER

This time of year I like to take a little virtual trip down under. There is always plenty of summer inspiration in Australia this time of year.  I know a lot of you are fa-ree-zing and have been stuck in your homes so I thought a little trip to the beaches of Australia would be nice eye candy for today.

This is either going to make you smile or cry... I'm hoping it will make you dream of happy times in warmer weather.

Here are a few Aussie blogs and magazines for you to check out
if you are looking for a little adventure today:

DECOR/LIFESTYLE:
a beach cottage: great before and after story of updating a beach cottage, recipes and more... Shabby Chic vibe, vintage flea market finds and lots of white.

kara rosenlund: talented beyond belief, photographer, stylist, mobile shopkeeper (check out her vintage camper).

the design files:  almost like a mini-mag, well edited art, design, kids stuff, interviews with artists. A good read and lots of home tours.

ARCHITECTURE/BUILDING:
light home: architects weigh in on the perfect 'light home'... ie: breezy, open, airy.  Super modern vibe, sustainable ideas, tips for building a home, lots of advice and inspiration.

FASHION:
they all hate us:  one of my favs... fashion inspiration with a tight edit.  Easy to see why this blog is so successful..  Girly and slightly bad ass. Great combo. Had to throw this one on the list... not so much about summer beach house but perfectly cheeky if you are in need of that today.
