CANVAS INTERIORS LATELY

Popping in today with some images I've been shooting around Canvas Interiors lately. I love this exercise of editing my favorites to share with you here. It is slightly meditative for me to put these together and it gives a good snapshot of what is on the floor.

I hope you are enjoying your day and as always, if you have any questions about anything you see please feel free to email hello@canvasinteriors.com  and someone will get back to you right away.

You can see our entire collection on our website - Canvas Interiors. Thanks for stopping by today!

HAVING A BALL

We are soon headed to a fancy black tie party, the always inspiring Make-A-Wish Wishmaker's Ball. What to wear for a girl who lives in casual clothes?  Each year I have fun with this challenge. From a very expensive pair of shoes bought for the occasion, to a $4 necklace, I've mixed and matched and repurposed my black tie look over the years with one thing in mind: comfort.

Last fall I purchased something on a whim, not knowing where I would get to wear it. It is a lovely big floor length ball skirt. I'm so loving this look and the fact that you can mix and match the top for a different vibe is music to my ears.

I love these three - a crisp black version with classic white or add a pop of color and keep the top simple, or a layer of tulle and a little edge. This thing's got legs.

Now I just need to find the perfect top:

CANVASSTYLE ON THE HUNT

I have been on the hunt for the perfect black summer wedge.  Sounds simple enough right?  I don't do heels well. I do TOMS and Converse well. So when I need a little height I have to go for a wedge. I have always loved a good espadrille. However finding a black one that looks refined enough to dress up but casual enough to dress down has proven challenging.

I have collected some that I like here... I must warn you some of these are rather expensive (Burberry, Lanvin... ) however I collected them none-the-less.  I assembled both espadrilles and black wedges. Some of these are dressier than others but they all share one thing in common. Refined.

After much (too much) searching I think I have settled on this one:

These will work with a FBD (Floaty Black Dress) or rolled up boyfriends. Done and done.

IF CANVAS INTERIORS WAS A HOTEL

I stumbled upon images of this hotel on AD and immediately fell in love. If Canvas Interiors was a hotel, this would be it. The 1 Hotel + Residences in South Beach.

New York Design firm Meyer Davis transformed the old Gansevoort hotel in to this understated and truly eco-conscious oasis. Starwood Hotel Group created the new brand 1 Hotels, developed by Barry Sternlicht,  the creative force behind the W Hotels and St. Regis hotel brands. The idea of taking a concept from a germ of an idea to a full blown brand statement like this one is something that I truly get excited by. Beyond a brand, this hotel group philosophically believes in doing things differently in order to preserve our natural surroundings.  Read more about that here

Canvas Interiors was that germ of an idea and to see something like this hotel gets my creative juices flowing even more. It is so exciting to see passion for an idea come to life.  After working in advertising for so long and producing work that comes and goes - it is really awesome to make an idea come to life. And stay. Bricks and mortar, a place people can come to gather. A place that reflects a lifestyle. So. Fun.

This is inspiring and gets my creative wheels turning. Now if only I could find a 70's condo to gut and re-do. And perhaps open a Canvas Interiors in South Beach? Hmmmm... now there is the germ of an idea.

CANVASSTYLE STRATEGY: DRESSED IN UNDER 5 MINUTES

With busy lives and kids and activities and working and and and ... there is usually about 5 minutes left on the clock for this mamma to get ready to go out.  Which is fine really.  One great floaty black dress and a few gold bits is all I need.  Makeup? I never wear any which is a great strategy because when I do put a little eyeliner and mascara on people are wowed into believing I spent an hour on my makeup alone.

Makeup and dressed in 5 minutes. Try it! It is rather liberating to float out the door not having spent an hour getting ready.

SECRET GARDEN

I am completely immersed in searching for garden gate ideas as we lean in to a small reno chez K. We have a decent sized porch off of the master bedroom that is never used (Florida = mosquitos) and we are getting ready to enclose it and turn it in to a little master suite office/den.

Outside this porch there is a small area that is a lost lonely space. Leave it to my Mom (she is really good at this stuff) to figure out how to reconfigure the fence and claim that little patch of dirt as a proper garden area. This mini-reno is going to change the whole feeling of the bedroom from the inside out.  Imagine looking out the window at a little secret garden. Which brings me to fences and gates. The gate on the bottom left is the one. Practically the same paint colors as our house and just the style I was looking for.

This is going to be fun. Oh and did I mention I have envisioned exactly that pool cabana situation since we moved in to this house? Fireplace in the middle, same colors, same layout - seriously just what I had in mind. I am so excited by these images.

Get ready Mr. K. My wheels are turning.

THE CAFTAN

Google 'caftan' or 'kaftan' and you get all kinds of images. From hippie chic to embroidered elegance, this item conjures up many vibes. I have been slightly obsessed with finding just the right one. Not too hippie, not to big that it swallows me.  Both chic and elegant at the end of a long beach day, this style staple can go straight to dinner.

CANVAS INTERIORS LATELY

Every now and then I pop in here in blog-land with the other side of life... Canvas Interiors.  I'm going to try to do that a bit more often here so you can see where I am if I'm not blogging.  A bit of a juggling act for sure. Don't want you to think I'm asleep at the wheel. If you don't find me here you can find me on Instagram daily both for the store and the blog

A lot of new pillows have arrived including the John Robshaw sweet camel guy and the beautiful grey one (middle row far right).

When new things arrive its fun to rearrange. Even the most subtle shift on the floor makes everything feel fresh and new.

And this was fun... opened the garage door and looked back.  Thanks Nikki for making me look at things differently that day!

You can see our collection by heading to our website and keep up with daily shots from the showroom floor by following Canvas Interiors on instagram. Or stop in and see us in Altamonte Springs, Jacksonville or Winter Park FL.

CUE THE CULOTTES

Culottes.  Conjures up images of Charlie's Angels/Kate Jackson right?  Very few times do I embrace a trend that had its day when I was in middle school. But culottes, yes. Yes I will wear them now.  I will not mind you, rock the denim version that I did 'back in the day'.  The grown up me is loving the dressy version, box pleats or satin or tuxedo stripe.  Perhaps even lace.

Culottes are also a great transition piece in to fall with boots. I can't wait to play with that look. Charlie's Angels here I come.

The good news is they are affordable. Of course I love Olivia Palermo's Tibi version above but for a trend like this my go to's are Nordstrom or Asos.

10 THINGS

Lately I've been imagining what my answer would be if someone asked me the age old magazine question: "what 10 things can't you live without?"

Its fun to think about. What are your signatures that if not in your world you would be lost without?  I mean not really lost but you know, you would miss a lot.

Take a white sofa for example. From my early days starting out  in LA with no money I have had a white sofa. I bought a cheap sofa somewhere on a street corner on La Cienega and a bolt of white denim fabric and had slipcovers made. I've used painters drop sheets, sheets, I've done it all. How fitting then, a store named Canvas Interiors filled with white sofas should be a part of my life now.

Here are my '10 things'.  Some are big, some are small.  But they all tug on my heartstrings and hold a special place in my world. Yes, my car tugs on my heartstrings.  Call me crazy but she has a name.
